The Work of Hilary F. Marckx
The photographic work of Hilary F. Marckx has spanned from documentary
landscape to abstract minimalism, from black and white to color, from fine art
to commercial, from rocks to people.
Marckx has done photographic illustration for advertising, and has exhibited in
galleries since 1969. His fine-art is in numerous public collections. His images
have been in numerous regional and national publications, including: Time, The
Sacramento Bee, Sacramento Magazine, U. S. News and World Report, Ordinance,
Sports Illustrated, and Interview.
Commercial clients have included: Crystal Creamery, California Almond Growers,
Port of Sacramento, Westinghouse, United Press International, The Crocker Art
Museum, The Pacific School of Religion, Gibson Wine, Gladstone Cellars, Bank of
America, Sacramento Municipal Utilities District, Bechtel, and Aerojet General.
In his Geyserville, CA studio, Marckx concentrates on small product illustration
and event photography. Photographic capabilities include: small product
illustration for catalog, web site, point of sale; availability of commercial
kitchen for food photography; industrial photography. Generators and portable
equipment allow him to work on location. Formats include: 35mm, Medium & Large:
digital & film.

Every event that involves people and their activities is important and needs
not only its intention and meaning recorded but the emotion of the occasion to
be documented as well. Many times there are no second chances to record images.

Newsweek; and interpretive work with corporate and political clients, as well as
families and portraits; to commercial production for web sites, annual reports,
fashion, media advertising, and brochures.

Hilary is an award-winning photographer who since 1969 has been in many one
person exhibitions and group shows, with work in major public collections.
Hilary has a Ph. D. in theology & photo-historical criticism, he is a Fellow at
the Center for Art, Religion and Education, and his expertise and judgment in
art have earned him the position of Curator of Current Art at the Bade Museum in
Berkeley, where he takes time out from his busy photographic schedule to manage
exhibitions for local, regional, and nationally known artists.
