Singer/Songwriter Hilary Marckx writes songs with an edge.
Story-songs of life, fun, hardship, and love, politics, and religion. Some
are based on his personal experiences. Some stories told to him of
happenings in 1940-1960s rural California. Some of Hilary’s songs are
about true occasions, and some are just plain lies he made up. Hilary lived in California ranching and farming communities during most of his formative years. In Modoc, Lassen, and Placer counties Hilary heard the stories of the cowboys, watched them work and ride and rope, and learned to work many of the jobs that go along with livestock and farming. Hilary has bucked hay, been bucked off more horses than he can count, driven tractor, shoveled manure in a Grade “A” dairy, picked pears, apricots, and peaches, drunk too much, fought too hard, and driven too fast. Now he writes and sings about it, His influences include ‘20s and ‘30s Western Swing, ‘40s & ‘50s Honky Tonk & Rock-a-Billy & Rock ‘n Roll — Jimmy Rogers, Bill Boyd, Billy Joe Shaver, Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Wilf Carter (Montana Slim), Nat Stuckey, John Stewart, Woody Guthrie, Carl Perkins, Hoyt Axton, Arlo Guthrie, & John Prine.
